A small device that can be used with the various utilities installed on it, and also is linked into the DS9 life-support console, which it gathers data from. Like any good datapad, it has many switches, lights, and knobs. There must be a thousand blinking, beeping, and flashing lights. They're blinking, and they're beeping... I can't take it anymore! They're flashing! THEY'RE NOT STOPPING! THEY'RE BLINKING AND THEY'RE BEEPING AND THEY'RE FLASHING!!! -- Buck Merdoch of alpha-beta base.
